Family Therapy
There are a number of approaches to family therapy. The one that resonates with us is called Systemic Family Therapy.
We like it for two reasons:
- It helps us focuses on the relationships between family members. Any time a family member is distressed, it affects everyone in the family. Consequently the solutions to many family problems can be found in relational work between family members.
- The way we practice Systemic Family Therapy, it is a positive approach that focuses on the strengths of family members as well as the inate desire to relate in a healthy way to other in the family.
- Systemic Family Therapy can be relatively brief, because our practice of it is primarily a matter of learning. We like to teach people how to solve their problems, rather than solving their problems for them. That way the solution they sought when they walked in goes with them when they leave.
