Play Therapy

Play Therapy, like Sand Tray Therapy is a projective that allows children to process their feelings without words.

It is much more relational than Sand Tray Therapy. Active children tend to like it better.

We like it because we know that the relationship between the therapist and the child is the "field" in which healing and resolution take place.

When is Play Theraputic?

Play is theraputic when the relationship is non-judgemental. In stead of saying "Thats' good," or "That's bad." We say things like , I noticed that you..." This stimulates the child to examine his or her own inner world, provides the freedom to grow, and builds a bond with the therapist.

If you want read a gripping account of the power of play therapy you might read Dibbs in Search of Self by Axline or visit the Play Therapy Association website.
